problems in solar water heater and preventive measures

Solar is one of the renewable energy sources which are utilized for the household purposes. There are many products being produced from the solar. Solar water heater is the most employed water heating systems in the house. Cleaning is one of the maintenance processes. This should be done periodically in order to maintain the quality of the heater over the long duration. This is not confined to the house alone, they are used in mass solar empowered plant and small industries. The types of solar water heater vary from domestic purpose, industrial purpose and commercial purpose. This type of heating process is just the simple phenomenon of conversion of cold water into hot water utilizing the sun power. the system left uninspected or unnoticed for long duration leads to several problem and some are mentioned in the below paragraphs:

Problems in solar water heater:
Scaling: the water received for the household purpose is enriched with mineral content. To be specific, such kind of water is said to be hard water. The mineral in them affects the path of their flow. The mineral get deposits on the collectors and the accumulation of sediment minerals on the layer of the pipelines and the collectors is called as scaling. This scaling may also occur due to the anti-freezing agents used along the pipes to melt down the ice dams.

Soiled collectors: as the collectors are placed in the open atmosphere the chance of getting exposed to the dust is frequent and they should withstand the variation in the temperature. The nano or micro-sized particles can easily enter the small space. In damaged system, the dust accumulates and diminishes the performance of the water heater.

Freezing: this is the problem which most often occurs in the cold regions where the snow storms are predominant. In cold seasons, the solar water heater panels remains at rest as the vicinity of the sun will be very feeble due to the dull climatic conditions. As the liquids are used for transferring the heat, the freezing occur at very faster rate. This freezing makes the flowing liquid harder and thus damages the water heater.

Plantation growth: the moss is the plantation which makes their presence in the highly moisture area. The moss appears on the roof of the building or on the walls as they become older. They soon occupy the water heater installed on the roof and affect the external portion of the heater. The plantation buildup is identified with the simple indication of color shading. This hinders the performance of the system.

Corrosion: corrosion is otherwise implied as rust formation, this is the reaction which occurs due to the electrons exchange. The metal types used in the construction of the system and the climatic conditions are also the major reason for the corrosion process.

Preventive measures:
#1: scaling in the water heater can be avoided by building the mineral filters in the inlet or proper mineral dissolvent can be added inside the path of the water
#2: the freezing can be avoided by using the heaters or the anti-freezing agents in the collector which then melts the ice berg.
#3: the corrosion can be avoided by keeping the system dry for long duration. This will keep the system dry for a short duration which then increases the durability.
